Welcome to Singapore

Singapore, a bustling city-state in Southeast Asia, is a dazzling blend of modernity and tradition. Known as the "Lion City," it’s celebrated for its futuristic skyline, efficient infrastructure, and multicultural vibrancy. From the awe-inspiring Gardens by the Bay and iconic Marina Bay Sands to the rich history of Chinatown and Little India, Singapore is a destination that offers a little bit of everything. Whether you’re a foodie, a nature enthusiast, or a culture seeker, Singapore’s charm lies in its seamless fusion of the old and new.

Visa

Singapore has a straightforward visa policy. Citizens of many countries, including the UK, US, and EU, can enter visa-free for up to 30 or 90 days, depending on their nationality. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of entry. For those requiring a visa, applications can be made online or through a local Singapore consulate.

Climate

Singapore has a tropical climate, characterised by consistent warmth and humidity year-round. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 31°C. While there is no distinct dry season, the months between November and January are generally wetter due to the northeast monsoon. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing and be prepared for sudden downpours with an umbrella or raincoat.

Getting around

Ferries

Flights

Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is one of the world’s best airports, renowned for its efficiency and amenities. Direct flights connect Singapore to major cities worldwide, including London, New York, and Sydney. The airport is located approximately 20km from the city centre, and you can reach your destination via taxis, ride-sharing apps, airport shuttles, or the affordable and efficient MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system.

Public Transport

Singapore’s public transport is world-class, featuring an extensive MRT network, buses, and even river taxis. The EZ-Link card or Singapore Tourist Pass provides seamless travel across all public transport modes. The MRT is particularly efficient for reaching most attractions, while buses cover areas the trains don’t. The city is also highly walkable, especially in central areas like Marina Bay and Orchard Road.

Car Rental

Car rental is available but not necessary for most visitors due to Singapore’s excellent public transport. Traffic congestion and limited parking in the city can make driving a challenge. However, if you plan to explore beyond the city or prefer private transport, ensure you have an International Driving Permit and are familiar with local traffic rules.
